Rain, Sorchiee and I played around in the arena on Nymphai, which is home to this round of The Secret Affair, earlier this week in these absolutely stunning dresses by deviousMind. Somehow, between then and now, my post with all my ramblings, links and landmarks vaporized. I read quite a bit today about Gladiatrices, ancient female Roman gladiators. Although I studied Ancient Rome during my collegiate career, my area of expertise has always been Ancient Greek art and archeology, so not only was my inner nerd totally and thoroughly engaged in the topic, I learned something new today. While I knew of several prominent ancient women that are thought to have participated in these fights, I never realized that the vast majority of scholars believe this was nothing uncommon and in fact was more popular in ancient Roman culture than we first thought. Oh hell yeah!
