Frozen Charlotte is a type of china doll that was extremely popular during the Victorian era. The doll’s name originates from Fair Charlotte, an American folk song that was based on the poem “A Corpse Going to a Ball” by Seba Smith. The story tells of a young girl, Charlotte, who refused to dress warmly to go on a sleigh ride and she ultimately froze to death during the journey. The song and poem became so popular it started a craze from 1850s through the 1920s for these dolls, akin to maybe the Cabbage Patch hysteria of our time. These dolls would be kept in coffins and then baked into cakes for the children to find.
I love creepy Victorian origin stories so I thought I’d share that with you. Kynne and I are of course, not dead, but from the looks of our avies they were quite frozen! I liked the play on the word Charlotte as well since we are skimpily clad in ERSCH’s new Elf Helper Gacha. We are wearing the newly made BOM Ball Jointed Doll layers by Sweet Thing that are totally addictive. The kit contains a ton of layers and depending on the layers, amount of layers and the order of the layer there are so many gorgeous looks. The number of layers adds dimension and details that cannot be obtained by using and applier. Not to mention the the gloss layers that can be added on top to finish off the look. Yes, literally the new shiny, go get them.
