Sorchiee and Duchess reached the outer rim and glared out over the barren land littered with the remnants of failed farms. Battleworn. The rapidly changing and hostile environment displaced the residents of the land forcing them to live underground where the climate could be regulated. As the wind whipped Duchess in the face she shuddered. How she longed to hear the sounds of birds singing or the laughter of the young but those sounds left shortly after the bees went extinct. The silence was deafening. Merry Christmas she muttered to no one in particular…. Sorchiee turned to Duchess and announced, “Apocachristmas….” She was right, there was nothing merry about it…..
